It's National Poetry Month. My children have both been exploring the nuances of poetry at school, which just tickles me. It has also amounted to a little creativity on my poetic part, as seen in this cinquain poem. Have you written any poems in National Poetry Month?

Birthdays

Birth - days
40 of them lined up
to make you
a man
ex-
perienced
at life
and beyond.
but you have missed
5 of them now
and I won-
der if
it
matters
any more...

Happy Birthday Brad

Gobble, gobble, gob-

Can’t
wait for my
Thanksgiving feast
When I get to
Flip the bird

To fill turkey full

Walking, laughing, spinning
Children at merry play
Dancing, singing, living

Well G-Man,
you can tell what I have on the brain already
Thanksgiving this weekend!
and I have a hankering on for some
TURKEY!
I shall be bringing
STUFFING
(Yum)
PICKLES
(that's why I make them don't you know!)
and PIE
(with apples that we gathered on our recent trip to the orchard)

God, I'm hungry now.

 Maybe I will grab an apple while I wait.
Oh, my mixed bag of poetry
(think I have a little free verse/shaped, cinquain & diamante in there)
sums up to 55 words as well
in case you were wondering.
BOOK!!!!

What are you up to this weekend?

The End of the (OSW) Year

A Christmas Poem

naw

hmmmm...

what then?
haiku for you
to read, analyze, and rate
against doting peers

well,
that doesn't thrill me
although it fits

cinquain
brave, artless
rhyming, scheming, plodding
this isn't going anywhere
poetry

Lord, this is the last OneShot for the year!
Pressures on...
here we go.

...
.....
The Christmas goose
and Christmas gander
just set loose
for a little wander
where to? they wonder
as their route around
they did ponder
with trailing fox none too confound
A stop upon a little mound
helped the straggler
to make up ground
and sneak in a littler nearer
Feathers flying to the sky high
alas the fox is left with nigh Christmas chicken pie.

Oh, feckless words!
what sonnet is this?
that tries my brain
and poetic nerves
with none a thought
you do deserve
the trash heap abyss
no more to strain
a pen's sweet curves
Ai- just flow is sought
but for today, I will away
and grace One Shot Wednesday with A New Day

Water

The sun reflects in it

Mythic creatures
lumber in for refreshment
at its shores

Flowers thrive near it
Children are awed by its beauty

and the whole world
reflects on the splendor,
the serenity,
the tranquility and power
of its song.

Water
Autumn glory
reflected on shores
of Nature's colourful canvas
bliss

my rock

-rock-
My dear
your birthday nears
thoughts drift to you
remembered.

-Grief-
once held
in stagnant arms
enfolded life in limbo
waiting

-life-
slowly rises
with drifting skies
to patch a path
renewal

-tomorrow-
silver linings
bright coloured mittens
a few favourite things
hope

"Let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing"
quote from "The Prophet" by Khalil Gibran

Wednesday shall break in a scant few minutes. I must hasten to bed, but offer up a cinquain poem of hope.
Something I cling to, crave and try to hold in my heart
with memories

The Sleep Over

Bath
free, fun
scrubbing, splashing, singing
wash off day's memories
Clean

Bed
close, secretive
reading, tickling, sharing
whisper in the dark
Sleep

Girls
exasperating, cute
playing, wiggling, giggling
never going to sleep

Beauty Makeover

floor
uneven, cracked
shifting, crumbling, breaking
needing to be repaired
Disappointment

bathroom
messy, fractured
heaving, popping, cracking
one way to fix the floor
tile-less

renovation
necessary, timely
removing, replacing, resealing
hope to get more than three years
gratitude

serenity
placid, unfazed
screwing, sizing, skim-coating
all part of a beauty renewal

Here is a little Cinquain poem for the good people at One Shot about a bathroom repair job going on amidst the rest of life's little intricacies. It is dedicated to the Tile Guy (aka Murray)! He heard my shout out for help around the house and showed up with a contractor hat on. Mwah! The best; you are the best!! Hopefully I can post some pics of  a brand new floor before I know it. Enjoy and Happy Wednesday!

Feet

Feet
painted, punished
drifting, dangling, drooping
challenged by the journey
appendages

Feet
youthful, lively
running, jumping, dancing
ready for the next hurdle
Vibrant

Feet
calloused, care-worn
comforting, standing, walking,
there to stride me into tomorrow
stability

Feet
darling, unique
working, moving, living
appreciated for all they have seen and done
mine
~~~
What takes you into the future and today? My feet are feeling punished by my journey as of late. I need to appreciate them more for all they do for me. I showcase my tired tootsies over at OneShot with some Cinquain poetry today, but also give a nod to GardenMama and her Wandering Wednesday photo journeys. Happy Wednesday all!
Reaching further
Child
Beautiful, gangly
Hanging, laughing, falling
Determined to master the monkey bars
Adventurist.
~~~

I was inspired by a new style of poetry that I was recently introduced to. This is my interpretation of a Cinquain poem. My little monkeys were inspired by a climber in a friend's back yard. Climb higher, reach farther, dream further my little ones...
