End of an Era

It’s the
End
Of an era
~

Oh Monkey,
You swung us thru
This junglescape
& kept us
On our toes.
Yelling,
“Quit monkeying around
With syllables down.
You’ve only 160
To play
With!”
~
Sniff,
Now
No more…

*****
Tonight is Monkey Man's last night for his weekly Sunday 160 challenge. I know there will be lots of people wondering what to do with their Sundays now, but I for one salute you for all that you did to improve my writing with this great exercise in brevity. Here's a song dedicated to you from a new band I just discovered that does some kick-ass Christmas tunes. Keep swinging Monkey! We love you baby!!

Happy Halloween!

Wee ghosts & goblins
scurry to my house
cry for treats & trinkets
til pumpkin orb I douse

You’ll be sorry kiddies
As I’ve a trick for you
I’ll get you my pretties
Boo!

All dressed up and no place to go,
but wait!
I can stop by Monkey's
for the Sunday 160
ah hahahahaaa!

We came...

Did you hear that?
A little WooHoo from behind the camera?
That was either Ms C or me
As we jigged,
despite a stoic crowd
Might not be a hipster
But we’re still cool!

and that 160 characters does not come close to describing the fun that we had last night, on our evening out on the town. Love you babe! Thank you so much for inviting me along! Enjoy Monkey. Happy Sunday!

Well-Deserved Break Coming

Markéta Irglová opens. Iron & Wine headlines. Add to that dinner and drinks with Me, & I suspect that I’ve got the perfect evening in store. 13 days & counting!

And that is 160 characters folks! Haven't played in a long time, but thought it was high time. Go see Monkey Man for way more offerings!

The Dark Path...

I can faintly see shapes littering the path ahead of me. Eyes seem to peer through the gloom watching my every step. Is it too late? Should I turn back now?

Noo!

It is playtime at my house this morning, as I pen a Sunday 160 for Monkey Man. Go visit him and see what else is on offer this week. If you dare...

Give Me A Broom or Give Me Death!

Sleeping beauty lay,
glazed eyes barely
able to see
the growing grime.
Was this a fairytale ending -
Forever to drool
onto cheap throw pillows?

Bring on the Drugs!

Don't worry. No camels were actually harmed during this photo shoot. She was actually sleeping!

I haven't played the Sunday 160 in ages! The drugs must be working a smidge, as I am off the couch! Well, hoping to be for some of the rest of this beautiful long weekend. Have a great Sunday all and Salutations to you Monkey Man for being such a super host week after week!

The Week is Done...

Quietly crept in
end of week’s hours
without scheduling,
few tasks to do
or indeed done.
A pace set by
whims of fancy,
flights of fun,
as I watch the
silent setting sun.

Monkey Man hosts a Sunday 160
where he encourages you to try your hand
at writing something in exactly 160 characters.
Care to give it a try?

Drip, drip, drip...

I can
not remember
a day that it hasn't
rained in the last weeks.
Every day. Maybe not all day,
but at some point every
Single day a little
bit more
rain
has
fallen…

and that my friends is a soggy 160 for Monkey Man's Sunday 160. Hope you had a sunny weekend!

Snapshot of my Past

Mother's Day 2005
Sun shone.
Air
gentle and mild
plastered faces in smiles
My first Day.

Eyes held a beginning tale
that would conclude 2 years later
when Daddy faded
from this picture

-/\-
(Aw shucks, that isn't a very happy mother's day poem is it? The pic was taken on my first mother's day; a few weeks after Daddy was diagnosed with cancer. Daddy's kind of help to make Mother's Day more special, so even though it is supposed to be a day to celebrate me, I tend not to be so excited. I know my girlies have special treats for me though, so I will do my best to smile for them & be a happy mommy)

Happy Mother's Day to You
& Happy Sunday 160.
Go visit some of the other folks
who link in and get your fill
of reading about Mommy's praises
as I am sure they will abound.

Speed Posted - SLOW

Monotone of wiper song
Swish, swish,
Swish

Ping, pling
of icy pellets bouncing
their lax suggestions

Jarred back
by tires aloft
ditchside
that ceased spinning
as I passed
~

I made it home in one piece from a weekend jaunt to Michigan. The drive home was not fun though. The speed was slow and there were constant reminders in the ditch that slow was the speed to go.  Chilling. I would rather grip the wheel a little tighter for a little longer, than sail spinning wheels through the air in the slush that filled the world and slicked the highways today. The OPP and Michigan Highway Patrol were earning their pay cheques on this sloppy day, pulling people from stuck vehicles galore. I do not relish them their jobs, but am glad that they were making some poor folks days a little better. They deserve accolades on this miserable, wet Sunday.  I am grateful that I am home and get to wish you a Happy Sunday 160. May you all be safe and snug for another day.

Sleep!

Bathtime
Bedtime
Storytime
Kisstime
Hugtime
Sleeptime

Time yet to play
Time yet for song
Time yet to count
Time yet to read
Time yet for yawns
Time to protest
Time to
Sleep!
~

I am willing the children to let go of the weekend and ease into sleep. It is Sunday and I want to finish my last assignment for the week before heading to bed myself.
Happy Sunday 160 to Monkey Man and all of you.

The Hush of Nightfall

A little late, but I post 160 for Sunday night at Monkey Man's place.

The hush of nightfall
fills  the  house
and mind
with
a  calm
that  I hope
continues into sleep
and my week
of new ad-
venture
into writing
for  my bread
and butter living

A Day of Rest

brain empty of any

hint of cognitive thought

replaced by sinking sensation

that sambuca might not have been

such a good idea after all -

Thank God for McD's playland
~

Monkey Man, I swear I didn't ask for any of those shots, but I guess I didn't refuse them either. One of these days I am going to learn...

I am out of town visiting my sister, but am joining in for the Sunday 160. Happy Sunday!

A Sunny Day

Verdant green
foreshadows the coming
of Spring
Despite a fresh blanket of snow
covering the mud puddles again.

A halo of flowers
bids haste
to sunshine’s warming balms

Happy Spring and Happy Sunday
to Monkey Man
and all his friends at the Sunday 160.

To Uncle's House We Go

To Uncle’s house we go
O’er farmer’s field
past orchards cold
to forgotten arms we flow

Spoiled with treats
perhaps toys
&  gingerbread dreams
-best is kin that greets

Tired

So
Tired.
Full of visits,
Disney songs,
Excited children.
All hyped up by cousin’s
play with squeals as
they  chased  the
poor cat, who’s
now asleep,
as should
be I.

Yawn

Sunday Scrub

In with the new
Out with the old
Goodbye old desk
So long last week’s
Dirty bowls
& crunchy socks
With a
Sunday scrub
& valiant vacuum
the world is clean again
For a day
~

Despite my slothful start to the day
I did get a few things done today
including a late addition
Sunday 160

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Gotta Go!

With 2 birthday parties
on either side of town,
a present to buy
& diner to prep
for friends and family
coming over tonight
the computer is the last place
I should be.
*

but I cannot help
but throw my 160
out there for Monkey Man's

Winter in Canada

It’s January.
Snow at 9 AM;
Expected  5-10 cm of white stuff.
Not as much as last month, but still…
I  even shoveled the driveway.

At Costco
I saw a guy in shorts
WTF!

^^^

I don't get it.
We live in Canada.
It is cold here in the winter
Pretty much all the time!
whatever...
I think I will go see what Monkey Man
is up to on his Sunday 160 today.

Welcome Home

Back from holidays
Phew!
I love visiting with friends & family,
but get me my coffee,
my vacuum
and lets suck the last of the life
out of Christmas
for another year

That is my 160
to say goodbye to 2010
and the holidays.
I am hoping to get back into
some kind of routine again tomorrow.
