Today

Sunshine dreams getting closer
and closer

as little feet walk the forest floor

Discovering little bits of nature

and memories of summer's sun gone by
Perhaps to nourish the earth again,
we hope

but crunching through winter's blanket
with smiles

Our view of the world
painted with questions of future developments
What shall tomorrow hold?

Tomorrow?
The children chant
"Enjoy today!"

Sunshine walk

I needed some fresh air and sunshine.
So I went for a walk near my house.
It was still, but for a few companions
and evidence of others in days past.

I soaked it all in
with my senses admiring the world around me
scents, colours, sounds

Life in small steps

morning thoughts

Snow flies outside my window
  (cover all the winter uglies)
Mama earth is taking winter back!
 drive carefully my pretties
   My lovelies
For raindrops from days past
  will catch you
    and send you
       for unwanted rides....
           Whoa!

January Sun

Sunny days
Few and far between.
Catch the fleeting rays
When they are to be seen

Cold, frosty breath
Icicles trace timelines
Winter at its finest
   Glittering  against crystal blue skylines

The warmth is in the heart
Sun drops tipping heads up
Surrender a widening smile
To the bottom of the coffee cup

The faces walking by
Do they feel the sun's kiss?
Embrace the best of the season!
Can we tell it is something we miss?

Contain the new

Frosty sunshine
fills me up with
winter smiles
Too few for any decent body to withstand.

Crunch, crunch
go stomping feet
as laughter peals out
over white and blue you

Ice is everywhere
treetops, eavestroughs
dripping in my heart
Carefully melting in sun with wintery edges

Why heart o' heart
should you melt this way
is not your ice intact
for another day?

It holds me close
Secure in a vise
thoughts held at bay
shards broken and diced

What? broken
why diced?
Not today with play on the way,
.... but on horizons advice.

A new day
A new year
A new start
Let go the fear

So sunshine, o' my sunshine
make me happy
I pray of you
For all the days of yesterday
  cannot contain the new

Snow fall

It is snowing. I heard tell this morning that it was supposed to snow all week. As Christmas is approaching rapidly, this makes me happy.  I love the beginning of winter with its new white blanket that softens the world. It hides all the ugly bits as they lie dormant waiting for Spring and their transformation. I say ugly, but that doesn't feel quite right. The world has less obvious signs of life and light and it constricts our movements. We stay closer to home to hunker down in front of the fire. Cuddly blankets and beds call louder to our sleepy souls. I don fuzzy slippers and dream of frothy eggnog. I await my children and their zeal, so that we can trim our tree this aft. It is a lovely tree, that I know will shine forth love, excitement and promise before the day is through. Crisp smiles and laughter helped to find it yesterday. Perhaps that will be a memory that will follow the girls as they grow. My memory trees held hot chocolate and sleigh rides. This is a new tree though and new memories to be built.

So let it snow and cover up the world and all that is in it. I am ready for my dormancy. I am ready for thoughts of transformation. I am ready for beauty and love. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...
